We deliberately booked our flights from Melbourne through to
Santiago to include a night’s layover in Sydney, with the sole reason behind
this to allow us to catch up with some friends.
We spent the afternoon and early hours of the evening
walking around Circular Quay and in amongst all the tourist’s I felt right at
home and got my ‘FUJ’ on (our word for Callum getting snap-happy). I had previously been to Sydney but for reasons that
escape me I cannot remember been around ‘The Rocks’ at night. It is amazing! Do
yourself a favour and spend at least some daylight hours down there and more importantly spend the first couple of hours after sunset in the area as well!
We then spent the night catching up with friends we had met
travelling – Tara from our African time and Tiff from our visits to Turkey and Israel.
Sometimes you forget how much you get from travelling. Obviously you get to see
some incredible places and take some unforgettable journeys, but for me it’s
the people you meet. Fair to say a lot of the travellers you meet in Europe are
Aussies and Kiwis but I am more than OK with that – and our night in Sydney is
the reason why! (being that you are more than likely going to see them again!)
We had not seen either of the girls for over a year (and
they hadn’t met one another), but you seamlessly fit back into the friendship
you may have forgotten about! Not that you forget your friends, more you forget
how much your enjoyed their company, and how well you got along in the first
place.
It wasn’t a big night by any means, but it was the perfect way to see us off on our next leg in what may seem like an endless holiday!
